World Wrestling Entertainment Chairman Vince McMahon has decided to cash in on the Britney Spears craze, sort of like that "Is He Or Isn't He" Prince Van Whathisname (the one who is married to Zsa Zsa Gabor) tried to do with the Anna Nicole hysteria. WWE released a video from their website of several Smackdown wrestlers, from World Tag Team Champions John Morrison and reality show star Mike "The Miz" Mizanin to ECW villain Shelton Benjamin to the popular new Hillbilly tag team, all courting Britney to come to WWE and re-jumpstart her career.
But TMZ, ever the bastion of pop culture phenomenon, reported that "WWE head Vince McMahon also authorized (a story on the WWE website) which suggests that he and the pop tart should hook up -- as in bedroom tag team partners?! Eek."
The WWE article in question is a rather blatant attempt at McMahon either throwing his billion dollar muscle into becoming Britney's promoter, or bedding the Louisiana popwreck. The WWE's wholly owned website hypes "Britney Spears and Mr. McMahon – they’re two peas in a crazy pod. Admit it: They’re the perpetual car wreck on the side of the road you can’t resist; you just have to watch. They’re drawn to the headlines – and vice versa – like moths to a flame. Could you imagine if these two ever got together? They’d either hate each other because they’re too alike or they’d be the perfect match."
According to Wrestlingnewsdesk.com editor Matthew Cooper, this is McMahon at his guerilla marketing finest. "Vince has blurred the line between the real Vincent Kennedy McMahon and the character of Mr. McMahon so much, even those closest to him don't know where the reality ends and the fiction starts," Cooper commented, "we've received so many reports from insiders that Vince always talks about his character on television as if it's so different than how he really is, but people close to him say he's a lot more like Mr. McMahon than even he realizes."
Cooper's wrestling news site also reported on Britney's now-ex K-Fed's foray into WWE last year at this time. "That was a blatant attempt by WWE to get into Britney's good graces," Cooper noted, "we exclusively confirmed through several WWE insiders that K-Fed's entire WWE deal was arranged by their Santa Monica office, which is headed up by casting director Kristin Prouty. She reportedly arranged for the entire Kevin Federline storyline on Raw, based on the fact that Vince wanted Britney last year for Wrestlemania."
Hey, ya'll, I'm singin' at Rassle-mania! Who's watching the kids watching me on rasslin'?
