Chris Benoit's Parents and In-Laws Settle Estate, Nothing From WWE Yet

An agreement in principle has apparently been reached in the legal battle over the estate of World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Chris Benoit, who killed his wife Nancy, their seven-year-old son Daniel, and then committed suicide over the course of a weekend in  late June, sources have confirmed.

Chris Benoit's father Michael told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that an agreement with Paul and Maureen Toffoloni, parents of Nancy Benoit, has been reached, and that he feels the Toffoloni Family should be compensated in some way for their loss.

"They've lost their daughter and lost their grandson," Michael Benoit stated in a telephone interview,  "I definitely feel there should be compensation for them. I've definitely thought that from the beginning."

Mr. Benoit added,  "In principle, it's there. It just needs to be documented," as he described how the proceeds of the estate would be split.

Confirming an exclusive report on Wrestling News Desk.com, Mr. Benoit stated the agreement calls for the proceeds from the estate to "pretty much" be evenly split between his son's two children from a previous marriage to the woman still known as "Martina Benoit" (15 year old son David and 10 year old daughter Megan)- and the family of Chris' murdered wife Nancy.

When asked for specific details, Mr. Benoit instead expressed deep regret over the cost of the attorneys in the case, saying the attorneys' fees and expenses of  approximately $500,000 to $600,000 will reduce the final value of the estate, which is estimated at being worth between $1.5 million and $3 million. "It's beyond me why we needed to spend $600,000 to get here," Mr. Benoit commented frankly.

"Chris Benoit's estates consists of no less than two homes, several bank accounts in personal and corporate names he used for tax reasons, and well-placed investments," commented Wrestling News Desk.com editor Matthew Cooper, "it gets a little more complicated because neither Chris nor Nancy left a will."

Mr. Benoit clarified, "There's lots of things that need to take place, properties that have to be disposed of, tax returns that have to be filed, a whole number of things over the next three to five months."

The Toffolonis have refused all requests for comment by the media, but family attorney Richard Decker of Atlanta stated, "We're trying to find common ground. If we have to litigate, we will. But we're working to avoid that if we can."

Mr. Benoit summed up his family's feelings by stating,  "Hopefully, for everyone, there's some kind of healing process that will take place. It's in everyone's best interest to start the healing process if you can."

Still to be determined will be the manner in which the families file the expected lawsuit against World Wrestling Entertainment, which declined an offer from Benoit family attorney Cary Ichter of $2,000,000 payable to Benoit's children David and Megan as demonstration of their father's contributions to the company.

Meanwhile, the family name still remains in the headlines, as nude photographs of Nancy Benoit, taken off a video shot almost 25 years ago, have been purchased by Larry Flynt's "Hustler" Magazine for publication in the issue about to be released next week.
