Mick Foley has confirmed our exclusive story, which we broke on our
E-Newsletter, that he is "likely" to leave World Wrestling Entertainment when
his contract expires.
World Wrestling Entertainment is facing yet
another announcing shakeup, as Long Island
native Mick Foley has confirmed rampant Internet speculation that his days under
contract with the company are numbered.
The former WWE Champion responded to phone messages left by the
Press with one of his own.
"I can't say much until after my contract expires, which is
September 1st. But at this point, there is a good chance, through mutual
agreement, that I will not be renewing the contract," Foley said while leaving a
phone message Thursday evening. "Creatively, the announcing job wasn't working
out too well."
Reports have centered on Foley being upset with the treatment he
received from Vince McMahon, who has a reputation of being hard with his
critiques of announcers.
Foley--who
debuted as a color commentator in April--was
replaced by fellow Long Island resident and ECW color announcer Tazz for
Tuesday's taping of SmackDown!, ostensibly to sell injuries Foley suffered at the hands of Edge during the previous
week's program. But that same night Matt Striker filled in for Tazz on ECW, and
now it looks as if the Striker/Todd Grisham team may be permanent, with Tazz
teaming with Jim Ross on SmackDown!
