FORMER WWE/WCW STAR BRYAN "CRUSH" ADAMS DEAD AT 43 Print E-mail

World Wrestling Entertainment's website has posted that former WWE (then WWF) and WCW star Brian "Crush" Adams was found dead this morning in his bed by wife. No other details are available as of this posting. Adams was 43 years old.

Adams debuted in Don Owens' old Portland territory using the name American Ninja. When Bill Eadie, who was the senior member of the Demolition tag team in WWE (then WWF) with Barry "Krusher Krushev" Darsow, decided he was going to assume a manager role of the team, Adams was brought in as the third member of the team named Crush. The three man team of Ax, Smash, and Crush wrestled some six man tag team matches against the Legion of Doom (The Road Warriors, whose gimmick Demolition was clearly copied) and The Ultimate Warrior.  Later on, Crush and Smash lost the tag team titles to The Hart Foundation and Demolition was phased out. Adams returned to Portland.

He was brought back as the Hawaiin Crush, using a double handed head squeeze as his finisher. It was during this babyface period that he had his memorable feud with Doink the Clown, including the infamous Wrestlemania IX moment when the second Doink, played by Steve Keirn, interfered in the match.

Adams was one of the people who were sacrificed during Yokozuna's early push, with Yokozuna "injuring" Crush until Randy Savage ran down to save Crush. Adams came back and turned heel on Savage. Adams, now managed by Mr. Fuji, did a memorable angle where he "attacked a fan at ringside." Savage and Crush had a Falls Count Anywhere Match at Wrestlemania X that was Savage's last Wrestlemania appearance to date.

Adams was arrested on steroid charges as well as possession of illegal weapons in Hawaii in early 1995, but WWE  turned the arrest into a storyline, bringing Crush back as a member of The Nation of Domination, saying Crush was a convict. He split from the Nation and got together with The Harris Brothers and Brian Lee, and they did a gimmick as the motorcycle riding gang the DOA, aka Disciples of Apocalypse.

Like many others in 1997, he jumped to WCW, and became a member of the nWo, dropping the "Crush" name that was owned by WWE.  In the Vince Russo era of WCW, he and Bryan Clark became the WCW World Tag Team Champions using the name Kronik.

Kronik was pushed to Vince McMahon after WWE took over WCW in 2001. Later that year, Kronik debuted with Stevie Richards as their manager. After a terrible match, Vince McMahon notified then-Talent Relations head Jim Ross to get rid of them.

Clark left the company, Adams stayed on, working in Les Thatcher's Heartland Wrestling Association.

Kronik re-teamed in All Japan and for Andrew McManus' World Wrestling All-Stars promotions.  The team won the All Japan Pro Wrestling Unified Tag Team titles, but abandoned them when Adams announced he was retiring from wrestling to pursue a professional boxing career. Adams never debuted, but had told several people he was going to be accompanied to the boxing ring by his old friend Savage.

Adams returned to All Japan, but suffered a serious back injury which necessitated surgery. He never returned to the ring following the back surgery.
