A bad day for World Wrestling Entertainment. The stock continued to take a
pounding, down 43 cents (2.54%), closing at $16.50 per share, and CW President
Dawn Ostroff showed no love for her former Friday Night ratings champion.
In an article posted tonight by the Associated Press, Ostroff is quoted
during a discussion about the WWE's 2 hour Friday night broadcast, which is
moving to MyNetworkTV in September.
The AP story states the following:
The CW is likely to be hurt again when its deal
with World Wrestling Entertainment for "Friday Night Smackdown" expires in
September. It's one of the network's most popular shows, but entertainment
President Dawn Ostroff said the CW has to take a step back to move
forward.
"It is not a program that is going to break out any
more," she said. "It is a program that is on the demise. It's also a program
that does not fit our brand."
World Wrestling Entertainment's Smackdown program will continue to air
on the CW until it switches networks to MyNetwork TV in September.
