Canada is ready for the UFC!
www.mmanewsdesk.com has
confirmed that Ultimate Fighting Championship's Canadian debut, set for April
19th at the Bell Center in Montreal has become the fastest sellout in UFC
history.
"Most of the tickets for UFC 83 were sold in the first 24 hours of our UFC
Fight Club (Premium fan organization owned and controlled by UFC)
pre-sale, and the rest were gone within one minute of the public on-sale
today," stated UFC President Dana White, "I'm excited to say that
this event is a sellout, and the fastest one in UFC history, so it's safe to say
we definitely will be back in Canada after this inaugural event."
The main event of the evening will be Matt Serra defending the UFC
Welterweight Championship against Montreal's own Georges St. Pierre, with whom
Serra has split two matches. With over 21,000 fans live in attendance, the crowd
will break UFC's record of 19,049, set at UFC 68 on March 3, 2007, at
the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, which was headlined by Randy Couture's
return to the Octagon to win the Heavyweight Title from Tim Sylvia.
