Former ECW Original James "The Sandman" Fullington will have a
bail hearing sometime today in Yonkers City Court, according to THE
JOURNAL NEWS Lo-Hud edition this morning ( CLICK HERE ) .
Wrestling star James "The Sandman" Fullington had to
cool his heels in the Westchester County jail for a third straight night after
he was denied bail in City Court as law enforcement authorities researched his
criminal history.
Fullington and his lawyer, John R. Lewis of Sleepy Hollow, are
due back in City Court today for a bail hearing.
Fullington, 45, was arrested Sunday after, police said, he went
berserk at a party for pro wrestling legend "Captain" Lou Albano at La Lanterna
restaurant at 23 Grey Oak Ave. just off the Saw Mill River
Parkway.
Louis Albano, 40, the son of Lou Albano, said the party was a
book signing for his father's new autobiography, "Often Imitated Never
Duplicated."
The Captain's son said there were influential people at the
signing.
"Thank God they left before it started," said Louis Albano, who
was there.
He said his father also left the restaurant before things got out
of hand.
Police said they were called to the restaurant at 9:45 p.m.
Sunday and arrived to find Fullington flinging glasses at La Lanterna staff. As
officers moved in to arrest the 6-foot-4-inch, 280-pound man, he started
throwing glasses from a tray at them, police said.
Two officers suffered cuts to their arms and hands. Both have
returned to duty.
Louis Albano said Fullington had too much to drink, but the staff
did not stop serving him.
"One thing led to another, and things got out of hand," Louis
Albano said. "That's the way wrestlers are."
Louis Albano said the owner of the restaurant threw a bottle at
Fullington's head when the giant wrestler became unruly, and that is what set
wrestler off.
"After that, he went berserk," said Louis
Albano.
During the arraignment yesterday for the Wayne, Pa., resident in
City Court before Judge Arthur Doran III, Fullington
was ordered held overnight
because Assistant District Attorney Richard Logan said he did not have a "rap
sheet" on Fullington to show his criminal history.
"It's been 36 hours," Lewis complained to
Doran.
Fullington was ordered held in jail by Doran. The wrestler and
his lawyer will try again today to have bail set.
He is charged with second-degree assault and third-degree
criminal mischief, both felonies, and second-degree reckless endangerment and
resisting arrest, both misdemeanors.
Outside the court, Lewis said, "Right now, he is a guy who has
the stress of facing criminal charges."
One family member was in the courtroom, but Lewis declined to
identify the young man.
During two visits to the restaurant, staff members said the owner
or manager was not present or available for comment.
