The story states the following:
As the Patriots Go 16-0, Chuck Liddell Defeats Wanderlei Silva at UFC 79 By Anna Elizabeth Anderson
The New England Patriots became the first team to end the season undefeated since the NFL expanded the regular season schedule to 16 games. Some fans point out the 1972 Dolphins finished the season undefeated, but their schedule consisted of 14 games, the Patriots had two more games this year than the Dolphins did in 1972.
The Patriots defeated the New York Giants in a thrilling 38-35 game, the type of fantastic dramatic game that every television executive yearns for, and this game was carried by CBS, NBC, and the NFL Network.
But across the country, at The Mandalay Events Center in Las Vegas, the UFC 79: NEMESIS pay per view took place in front of a raucous sold out crowd of what Mmanewsdesk.com reported was about 11,000 people.
The show was also one of the best in UFC history.
Georges St. Pierre defeated Matt Hughes by Submission (armbar) at 1:54 into Round 2 to win the UFC Welterweight Interim Championship. GSP manhandled Hughes, and was dominant the entire fight. An amazing performance by GSP, showing just how superior he is to everyone else in his weight class.
According to Mmanewsdesk.com editor Arturo Collozo Jr,. GSP (who refused possession of the Interim Title) will now meet Matt Serra to decide the 170-pound title for good in 2008. If Serra recovers from a back injury, the fight could take place April 19 in Montreal, where the reaction to GSP will be nothing short of a hero's welcome to performing in front of his hometown crowd.
In the other big story of the night, Chuck Liddell defeated Wanderlei Silva by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) after 3 Rounds. Collozo, who posted live updates on the MMA News Desk website throughout the event, stated "The 2nd round of this fight is as hard hitting, bloody, action-filled, and dramatic as any round I've ever seen in UFC history."
It was also announced another Interim Title was being created, as the Heavyweight Title situation with Randy Couture has yet to be cleaned up. So on SuperBowl Weekend, Saturday February 2, Tim Sylvia and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira for the Interim Title. That card also features the long-awaited UFC debut of former WWE Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar.

Collozo wrote on his www.mmanewsdesk.com blog that "This will be a controversial fight. Cane got in two big blows early in the round that really rocked Irvin. It becomes a wild brawl. decides to brawl back wildly himself. Irvin the aggressor, looking for a guillotine choke. While they're on the ground, Cane knocks out Irvin with a knee, and the referee called for the rare disqualification, giving the victory to the unconscious Irvin on an illegal strike."
In the 1st fight on the pay per view, Rich Clementi defeated Melvin Guillard by Submission with the rear naked choke at 4:40 of Round 1. This is also going to be controversial. Guillard entered the cage and got up in Clementi's face and gives him the Stone Cold Steve Austin double-middle-finger salute. Clementi then amazingly does a D-X crotch crop back to Gulliard and the two are pulled apart. Clementi got the rear naked choke and after a while, Guillard taps. Clementi stood up over Guillard and did another D-X crotch chop. Guillard got enraged and started coming after Clementi after the fight. Referee Herb Dean steps in. During the post-fight interview, Clementi says Guillard still hasn't learned his lesson and to get out of the cage. Guillard goes after him again and has to again be restrained. More trash talking. This was an intense scene.
