Brock Lesnar was interviewed by Yahoo! Eurosport UK to promote
his August 9th UFC clash with Heath Herring in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As with
recent interviews, Lesnar was very open in comparing WWE to UFC, but not so open
about his strategy against Herring inside the Octagon.
YAHOO:What's your favorite technique you've learned in training
which you'd love to end the fight with and make a high-light reel clip
of?
LESNAR: Why would I tell you that? My opponent would know what to
look out for. Just wait until August 9 and you'll see.
YAHOO: How tough is the lifestyle of a UFC fighter? On the All
Access all that crazy training sure looked like hard work!
LESNAR: It's tough when you're training for a fight. My trainer is
very inventive in coming up with new ways to torture me. But I like hard work
and pushing myself to the limit; I grew up on a dairy farm, so I know and enjoy
hard work. What is great is that I can take a break between fights, so I can
spend time with my family or go hunting and fishing.
YAHOO: When you're not fighting or training what do you do to
let off steam?
LESNAR: I enjoy bow hunting for white tail deer or taking a ride
on my Harley with my wife.
YAHOO: You've been an athlete in one form or another most of
your life. What's the worst injury you've sustained in your career?
LESNAR: Aside from the ordinary bumps and bruises associated with
any kind of athletics, I've been fortunate not to sustain any significant
injuries. I've certainly come close, like when I landed on my head after jumping
off the rope in wrestling. But I've been really lucky.
YAHOO: What's been your own personal favorite MMA fight to
watch as a fan and why?
LESNAR: That's a tough one. There's just so many that come to
mind. I really enjoy watching the other heavyweights with strong wrestling
backgrounds - Matt Hughes, Mark Coleman, Dan Severn etc. It was pretty cool to
watch Randy Couture beat Tim Sylvia last year.
YAHOO: If you beat Heath Herring who would you like to fight
next if Dana White suddenly said you could pick your own opponent?
LESNAR: Right now, I'm only looking at Heath Herring. My goal is
to capture the UFC heavyweight championship and I'll fight whoever they put in
front of me until I reach my goal. I don't really care who it is. I'm not here
to pick my opponents. That is what I told the UFC; I don't care who I fight, as
long as they aren't cans.
YAHOO: Is it harder getting hit in the UFC than it is in the
NFL or WWE?
LESNAR: Harder probably isn't the right word. It's different. In
the WWE, unless somebody screws up, you don't really get "hit," but you take a
lot of punishment going in and taking bumps night in and night out without an
off-season. In the NFL, it's more like getting in a car crash than getting
punched in the face. In the UFC, or MMA in general, you're getting hit in the
face or in the body with punches and kicks, but you also have to worry about
submissions - which can be worse than getting hit.
YAHOO: Who do you admire in the UFC? If you could model your
career on someone else's career, who would it be?
LESNAR: I'm Brock Lesnar; I'm not here to be like anybody else.
Sure, I respect what a lot of guys have done, but I'm not going to sit here and
look up to them. I want to be the best, me, Brock Lesnar, and I am working hard
to be the best.
YAHOO: How long do you think it will be before you're ready for
a title shot? And how annoying is it to be asked that question all the time
after only two pro fights?
LESNAR: Ha! Next question...
YAHOO:Which of your tattoos is your favorite? The dagger on
your chest and neck must have hurt?
LESNAR: I like them all - I don't really have a favorite. They're
pretty big tattoos, so of course they hurt like hell. Isn't that the point?
YAHOO: Will you be coming over to Britain to fight on a UFC
card anytime soon? When you were in WWE did you like travelling to the
UK?
LESNAR: While it's not up to me whether I'll be fighting in
Britain, I would certainly welcome the opportunity. I always enjoyed wrestling
in the UK during my time with WWE. Of course, the travel sucks - it's never fun
flying for 12 hours. The fans were great however, and that more than made up for
it.
YAHOO: Do you watch any British sports like soccer, cricket or
rugby? You've played a lot of sports in your time, how do you think you'd do as
a soccer, cricket and rugby player?
LESNAR: No, I don't watch cricket or soccer. I don't know that I'd
like playing soccer or cricket, but I think I would do well in rugby. I like the
look of that sport. If it was bigger in the States, that might have been
something I would have enjoyed playing growing up. It looks like a good,
aggressive, violent game! I like the look of that. Sort of like football without
pads. My kind of sport.
YAHOO: What do you think of Mike Bisping? Don't you think he'd
look so much cooler if he had a few tattoos?
LESNAR: I enjoy watching Bisping. He's a strong fighter. I'm
interested in seeing what will happen if he gets a shot at Anderson Silva's
title. Should he get tattoos? That's up to him. Obviously I like mine, but I
guess that's my taste.
