World Wrestling Entertainment's Tommy Dreamer was interviewed by Jim
Varsallone of THE MIAMI HERALD and his claims in the interview
were surprising.
''Do I miss the old ECW? Yeah, but my life has changed
dramatically, and I'm still very fortunate to be doing what I'm still
doing,'' Dreamer stated in the interview, which can be read at
this link: http://www.miamiherald.com/675/story/497609.html.
The former "Innovator of Violence" continued, ``Every once in a while, like
the Extreme Rules match that I recently had, that was a taste of what I used to
do on a constant basis. `Building up to it, I thought it was really, really
good, and ratings wise, the ratings have been up lately, and I think that's
cool. Chavo [Guerrero] and I just wrestled, and it was one of the highest rated
[WWECW] segments in a long time.''
That's surprising for Dreamer to say, because it's not true.
He continued, "I love being creative. I was beyond hands-on
in the original ECW. When we had the 2-05 pay-per-view, I wrote that whole
thing, and Vince McMahon said I want it to be different, and he got different.
It did amazing buy rates, the DVDs. Vince has to go with his heart and his gut,
and he's a very successful businessman.''
That's also surprising, since it was Paul Heyman who wrote the 1st ECW One
Night Stand. One WWE writer no longer with the company stated, "I
have no love lost with Paul Heyman, but Tommy Dreamer was a talent relations
liason for that show. Heyman wrote it and fought for the things he believed in,
from the Sandman's music to Tazz's music coming after Austin's. Dreamer spoke up
in one meeting, was shot down, and never spoke up again."
Dreamer also claimed he would stick by his guns creatively if asked to join
the creative team. 'Would I like to be behind the scenes now? I love
doing any task given to me. I am very, very creative. I love writing stories.
I'm an artist, mentally. You can not ask me to paint a picture like, `Hey
Dreamer, go paint me the Mona Lisa' and then last minute go put sunglasses on
the Mona Lisa because that's not the Mona Lisa. It has to be my vision, and you
got to trust me, and if you don't like my vision, then fire
me."
So what he's doing now is his vision of things?
One person summed it up today. "Dreamer has a great reputation," the wrestler
(who has worked for the Original ECW and WWE), "but these claims just are not
true."
