As Wrestling News Desk exclusively reported to
you several days ago, "Armando Estrada" has been named the new on-air
General Manager of WWE's version of Extreme Championship Wrestling. The
irony is that Estrada's big break happened when he worked with former
ECW owner and creative guru (and on-air leader) Paul Heyman in WWE
developmental territory OVW two years ago, developing the very
character he is now on ECW with.
This marks the first
"authority" figure besides WWE and WWE-ECW owner Vince McMahon on ECW
since Paul Heyman had his falling out with the McMahons on December 4th
in North Charleston, South Carolina, the day after the December To
Dismember pay per view. Heyman reportedly fought against the entire
re-booking of the show by McMahon, and had several backstage arguments
with Michael Hayes and Arn Anderson, the agent-producers in charge of
the Elimination Chamber. Heyman and Big Show wanted Show to be choked
out by CM Punk early in the match, and then have Lashley win the title
at the end, setting up a Lashley vs Show match for television. But the
scenario designed was Punk and RVD both getting eliminated early so the
fans had no one to cheer for but Lashley. Several people have told us
that Heyman fought hard against this, and the battles became so intense
that the next day, as we were told, "was a powder keg between Paul and
Vince."
Estrada was a non-contract OVW jobber named Osama under Jim Cornette's
booking reign. When Heyman took over, it was the same time WWE was
getting rid of Muhammed Hassan, and Heyman knew the "Terrorist"
character needed to go. Heyman allowed Osama to become "Big Lalo,"
Osama Rodriguez Alejandro, the Cuban/Palestinian character that
declared he was "running for Dictator of Los Kentuckos."
Heyman's OVW tv shows usually opened with a 4 or 5 minute skit by Osama
(Armando), twirling his cigar, calling the promotion "OBW" and how was
hosting the "spanish speaking virgin" of the program, then talking
about running for Dictator and legalizing prostitution, and doing
hysterical interviews with Maria Kanellis, Shelly "Ariel" Martinez, CM
Punk, and Mr. Kennedy.
Heyman told one story on the radio when he was doing a media tour
promoting ECW One Night Stand 2006, that he produced a routine on one
show with Mr. Kennedy doing the Chevy Chase from the original Saturday
Night Live, with Osama (Armando) translating the news into Spanish, but
instead of really translating, saying things like "tu madre is a big
puta..."
Estrada, real name Hazem Ali, is of Palestinian descent and hails from Chicago, Ilinois.
